Description of Portraits in Colored Pencil (Summer 2025):

This class is suitable for students who are interested in drawing human portraits. We will cover basic proportions of the face/head, drawing techniques, drawing materials, paper surfaces, grid method, photography, drawing from life, and reference living and historical artists.

After spending some weeks establishing the basics of drawing, we will create a series of portrait drawings utilizing skills students have learned.

In the final weeks, we will wrap up what we have learned and discuss ways of developing a more permanent art practice. The goal is that by the end of the 12 weeks, students will feel informed and inspired to keep making art.
