Description of Botanical Art (Summer 2025):
This class is suitable for students who want to study botanical plants, flowers, fungi and stone through drawing. We will cover art techniques such as: drawing with graphite pencils /colored pencils, basic watercolor illustration, mark making, value study, lighting, drawing plants from observation, picture composition, and reference living and historical artists.
Students will spend time taking their sketchbooks out in nature and drawing from life. They will be asked to collect leaves, flowers and other finds in nature to inspire final works of art.
In the final weeks, we will wrap up what we have learned and discuss ways of developing a more permanent art practice. The goal is that by the end of the 12 weeks, students will feel informed and inspired to keep making art.
