Hath a greater drama ever been told than the history of Rome? In this first block of Roman History, we will explore the characters, themes, and main events of the founding of Rome, through the Roman Republic, and finally to the commencement of the Roman Empire with the assassination of Julius Caesar.
Through songs, speech, stories, and art, the students will live into an experience of the Roman culture. As always, a truthful picture of Rome will be painted, including both its contributions to government, law, and technology as well as its cautionary tales, such as its ceaseless tragedies of excessive ambition.
Where appropriate, cross-cultural connections will be made, such as the comparison of Roman vs. Haudenosaunee law. This block is a juicy one, full of ups and downs, stark contrasts, and egotistical personalities.
