Description of Live Sculpture Class:
Writeup:
This class is suitable for any student with an inclination towards the sculptural arts. In this class, we are going to take it deeper than during our typical academic blocks. Where in the blocks, we do sculpture mostly as artistic enrichment to the lessons, here we will dive deeper into exercises and techniques to hone our sculpting skills.
We will begin with concave and convex, inner- and outer-oriented forms to build a vocabulary of form. Next, we will proceed to the proportion of the human form among others. Following that, we will explore plant and animal forms, followed by mineral and structural forms like a mountain cave and the Colosseum in Rome. Geometric forms will come next, followed by reliefs. Depending on the makeup of the group, we may then move into modeling aspects of the human body. In the last few weeks, we will play with creating sculptures using materials other than clay, such as cardboard, stones, and possibly even wood, depending on the group’s interest.
Students need not be expert sculptors, just open to learning and challenging themselves.
